Vel Johnson is the Founder & CEO of Vasaj Communications, a full-service public relations and government relations agency dedicated to enriching global brands and advancing community impact. A trusted strategist, she partners with nonprofits, corporations, and political leaders to build credibility, strengthen reputation, and drive measurable success.
In 2023–24, Vel served as the Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial Coordinator, leading the planning and execution of more than 200 events and programs during a nationally award-winning celebration that highlighted the region’s heritage and culture.
She previously served as Legislative Analyst, and Director of Constituent Services to the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, where she gained deep expertise in government operations and advocacy.
Recognized by Black Enterprise as a “Small Business Catalyst,” Vel brings more than two decades of experience in politics, communications, and community leadership. She has been featured in the Orlando Business Journal, Today’s Black Woman, IMMPACT Magazine, The Florida Sun, The Orlando Times, and across multiple television broadcasts. Early in her entrepreneurial journey, she was honored with the Emerging Business of the Year Award by the African-American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida.
Committed to giving back, Vel has served as an advisor to the Orlando Urban Film Festival and has been actively engaged with organizations such as the Central Florida Association of Black Journalists, National Association of Women Business Owners, Florida Public Relations Association, the Heart of Florida United Way, Council of Volunteer Reading Tutors, Tallahassee Society of Association Executives, Literacy Volunteers of Leon County, and Women in Communications. She also founded “Beyond Wellness,” a platform honoring stroke survivors and their families during National Stroke Awareness Month.
